Why I Spent All Day With This Tree
A quiet day spent photographing a lone tree in Somerset. This film explores why some places are worth slowing down for.
Film 4 – Why I Spent All Day With This Tree
Behind the Film
This film asked a simple question.
Can one tree be enough?
It became an exercise in slowing down and really observing a single subject rather than searching for the next view. Spending hours in one place changed the way I looked at the landscape. Instead of collecting scenes, I began to notice small changes in light, colour and texture that I might otherwise have walked straight past.
Making this film also reminded me that stories don't always have to be about grand adventures. Sometimes they're about giving one ordinary subject the time it deserves.
In many ways, this film became a bridge between my early work and the direction Western Light is now heading.
Sometimes one tree is enough.
